TECHNOLOGY and LITERACY SHOWCASE

I pursued a Master of Arts in Educational Technology (MAET) because I am always looking for new ways to engage and inspire learners through technology and was ready to take the next step in my educational career.  Little did I know that embarking on this journey would inspire me to become a technology leader in my own classroom and help me learn "how" to make a difference in my classroom through the use of technology.  Here I have featured various items in my Technology Showcase and Literacy Showcase highlighting what I consider to be the most important elements I have learned through the MAET program.  My journey through the MAET program has inspired me to be a lifelong learner and to continue to instill this love of learning in my own students.  Please click on the image to view the items featured in this showcase.

TECHNOLOGY

SHOWCASE

MAET Blog

One of my first projects was to create a blog to feature my learning.  I chose to design mine on www.blogger.com.  This particular project was a confidence builder in learning technology tools.  I created this blog as a means to share my work.  This blog served many purposes throughout each of my courses as a MAET student and I continue to use this blog as a source of reflection.  It features many projects I created using various technology tools, as well as learning reflections.  This project impacted me as a teacher by allowing me to reflect on my teaching and serve as a unique source of communication.

WebQuest

I created this WebQuest to incorporate technology in the classroom, but also give students an extended opportunity to learn outside of school.  WebQuests allow opportunities for learning to continue when students leave the classroom.  I created this on QuestGarden.  It helped me launch our fifth grade solar system unit and ensured student engagement.  I will continue to design WebQuests for other curricular areas as learning opportunities for myself and my students.  This particular project allowed me to see how integrating technology can boost student engagement.

Wicked Problem

The "Wicked Problem" focused on a solution to help increase student engagement during our nonfiction study in my classroom.  The presentation concentrates on how there needs to be a shift in thinking when it comes to book reports on informational topics.  Many times the word "boring" comes to mind and is what I would often hear from students.  Rather than having my fifth graders put written book reports together, I wanted to implement technology and have them create PowerPoint presentations individually or with others on an informational topic, such as objects in our solar system.  The implementation was a success and students were engaged throughout the whole process!

Professional Learning Plan

I created my "Professional Learning Plan" on Prezi, which features what courses I have taken and what I have learned in the three courses.  The three courses I completed were CEP 810, 811, and 812 in order to receive my Educational Technology Certificate.  The plan also shows "next steps" and my plan to continue learning as a professional.  I made this Prezi just after I found out that I had been accepted into the Masters of Arts in Educational Technology program.

Teaching Online

I designed an entire online learning site on a Course Management System (CMS) called Haiku Learning.  The focus for my online learning site is on the fifth grade science unit: Body Systems.  This particular project made me feel very accomplished as an educator integrating technology.  It is designed to be taught as a hybrid course so students can access lessons and learning from home, but then can also continue that learning in the classroom.

Personal Manifesto

This was probably one of the most difficult, yet rewarding assignments in this Masters program.  I really had to look deep into my own learning and teaching and create a manifesto that stood for who I am as a professional and what I believe, but also would help others in leadership roles.  It is an organized document to show others what I do in my own classroom to foster learning, creativity, and collaboration.  It is also a resource for professionals to reference photos, videos, articles, and websites to help create an environment where students are successful.

Online Portfolio

I am proud to feature who I am as an educator and life-long learner through my online portfolio.  It is a culmination of my work as a MAET student and showcases my learning and accomplishments through the use of technology.  The Capstone Portfolio course has really helped me reflect on all I have learned throughout each of the courses.  I appreciate how my learning throughout the MAET program is in one accessible place and gives others the opportunity to view my hard work and accomplishments.

LITERACY

SHOWCASE

Literacy Case Study

Throughout TE 846: Accommodating Differences in Literacy Learners, I worked with one student in particular whom I did a Case Study on.  I developed lesson plans and differentiated my instruction to meet this child's literacy needs.  It reinforced what I already know as an educator: differentiating instruction in order to meet each child's need is crucial to student success.

StAIR Creation:

Interactive PowerPoint

This project is a Stand Alone Instructional Resource, also known as a StAIR creation.  I designed this particular StAIR to enhance a reading workshop lesson for my fifth grade students.  I feel a format like this PowerPoint created on Google Presentations, is motivating for students to learn new information and interact with the nonfiction reading curriculum.  I used this PowerPoint presentation to launch our nonfiction reading unit focusing on text structures, and learned that when I put the slideshow on "kiosk" mode, it automatically loops and restarts the presentation.
