CEP 810: Teaching for Understanding with Technology
Instructors: Tammy Maginity, Jodi Spicer
CEP 810 was my very first course in this Master's program and was a wonderful introductory course to help me learn how to teach with technology. I learned about the structure of Technological Pedagogical and Content Knowledge TPACK and how to better apply this model in my own classroom. I created and shared a Personal Learning Network (PLN) that I continued to use throughout my Masters courses in the MAET program. I collaborated with others in order to create a digital learning lesson and used programs such as Google Hangout and Google Presentations to complete this project. This course was the springboard for my learning about educational technology.
Spring 2013
CEP 811: Adapting Innovative Technology to Education
Instructors: Sarah Beauchamp Hicks, Leigh Graves Wolf
One of my greatest accomplishments in this entire program happened in CEP 811 when I created my very own blog. This was an incredible learning experience for me because it helped me feel more comfortable and confident in using technology for educational purposes. I also designed a learning WebQuest in this course and implemented this WebQuest in my classroom. It focused on learning about the solar system and was a perfect way for my fifth graders to interact with the science curriculum in an engaging way!
CEP 812: Applying Educational Technology to Practice
Instructors: Allison Keller, William Marsland, Leigh Graves Wolf
In this particular course I learned how to do two very important tasks using technology: I created a podcast and also a flipped presentation. The podcast was a PowerPoint presentation introducing myself to my classmates and instructors and giving some background information. The flipped presentation focused on an online learning site, www.starfall.com. It's a teaching tool to show others how to use this particular resource and was a collaborative effort. I learned that I can use this flipped presentation technique for professional development purposes, as well as to teach students who have missed particular lessons...the learning doesn't have to stop when they leave the classroom. I developed a "Wicked" problem regarding how to tackle "boring" nonfiction book reports and make them more interesting by using Google Presentations and having kids create PowerPoints to show off their knowledge of various topics. This particular course helped teach me how to implement technology resources in the classroom in a fun, yet educational manner.
Summer 2013
CEP 822: Approaches to Educational Research
Instructors: Tatayana Li, E. David Wong
The goal for this course focused on various ways to collect, input, and compare data in different situations. These lessons on collecting data impacted my own learning and teaching by allowing me to analyze my own student data in a more efficient and powerful way. This course really taught me how to use Microsoft Excel and Google Spreadsheet effectively when looking at data. In this class, my final research project focused on comparing paper-pencil tests to computer-based assessments and analyzing results for my research review.
TE 846: Accommodating Differences in Literacy Learners
Instructor: Jennifer Knight
The course, TE 846, objective was to design a Case Study, focusing on a particular child who struggles in a certain area of reading. I created and implemented a variety of strategies and lessons to help the child improve in reading comprehension. I learned how to create meaningful lessons to help target particular areas in reading, as well as analyze the child's growth. Throughout this course, I designed interview questions, collaborated with other classmates regarding their case studies on Google Hangout, analyzed running records, and wrote a Case Study research paper.

CEP 800: Learning in School and Other Settings
Instructor: Danah Henrickson
This particular course really helped me look at how children learn in a variety of settings and how that knowledge can be constructed in different ways. I learned about different perspectives on learning, as well as misconceptions that occur based on how learning is constructed. I created a podcast where I interviewed a student and identified some misconceptions in her understanding of moon phases. I learned that once I identify misconceptions in students, I then am able to address these and reteach these concepts in a way that incorporates hands-on learning to help the fifth graders better understand.
Spring 2014
CEP 820: Teaching K-12 Students Online
Instructors: Anne Heintz, Sandra Sawaya
In CEP 820, I was able to actually design my own online course after comparing multiple Course Management Systems (CMS) from which to choose. I chose to design a "Body Systems" unit and lessons on Haiku Learning. This was an incredible learning experience for me and helped me become even more confident in my own abilities to design learning opportunities online. It also reinforced the importance of creating safety habits for students when online and promoting digital citizenship.
Summer 2014
CEP 816: Technology, Teaching, and Learning Across the Curriculum
Instructor: Rand Spiro
Everyone has an instructional dream where there are no limitations in education; time is of no concern, there is an abundance of technology, etc,. Throughout this course, I developed an "instructional dream" and had the opportunity to share it with others and receive feedback. I researched and viewed many inspirational TED Talks and realized my instructional dream is one in which students give back to the community in which we live. This course reinforced the importance of collaboration among students and colleagues, and I walked away from this course knowing more strategies for effective collaboration.
Fall 2014
CEP 815: Technology and Leadership
Instructor: Josh Rosenberg, Leigh Graves Wolf
CEP 815 really challenged me to go beyond my boundaries and picture myself as a technology leader in my building. The main focus throughout this course is the relationship between technology, leadership, and learning. I especially learned that in order to be effective as a teacher of technology, the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge TPACK model must be in place. It allowed me the opportunity to see myself as a leader and be more confident in implementing technology not only in my own classroom, but also at my elementary building as a whole.
Spring 2015
CEP 807: Capstone in Educational Technology
Instructor: Matthew Koehler
The Capstone course is the final class in the Masters of Educational Technology (MAET) program. This course allows me the opportunity to reflect on all of the incredible learning, collaborating, and teaching I have done throughout the Masters program. It is a culmination of all of my hard work that is displayed in this online portfolio. I have created this portfolio to showcase my learning and reflect on my journey as a student of the MAET program.
